One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT.," circa 1855, cylindrical jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird perched on a stump surrounded by a shrubs. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. A shallow flake to top of spout. A 1 1/2" in-the-firing crack at base, continuing 1 3/4" onto underside.
