Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Reclining Deer Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON VT," circa 1855, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout. decorated with a slip-trailed design of a doe with turned head and heavily-spotted body, reclining between a tree and fence. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Restored cracks, not affecting decoration. Restoration to base. Some mottling to surface on sides and reverse.
