Stoneware Canning Jar with Unusual Freehand Cobalt Decoration, Western PA origin, circa 1875, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, decorated with freehand vining at the midsection, stripes at the shoulder, and stripes girding a series of dashes at the base. Restoration to base area extending from left side of jar's front to left side of jar, including a small amount of touch-up to cobalt. Restoration to exterior of rim area. Two chips to interior of rim. A chip to inner wax sealer rim. H 9 3/4".
