Very Rare Five-Gallon Stoneware Presentation Cooler with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Inscribed "D. Perry", Stamped "HART'S / FULTON", NY State origin, circa 1870, ovoid jug-form cooler with rounded spout and octagonal bunghole embellished with an impressed sunburst design, the cooler's front decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a spotted bird atop a looping flourish, above the inscription, "D. Perry". Slip-trailed cobalt highlight around bunghole. Rare in its form and inscription, this cooler is among the most important examples of Hart family stoneware that we have ever offered. A 1" chip to side of spout. Two short in-the-firing cracks to base on front and a 4 1/4" in-the-firing crack to base on reverse, extending a few inches onto underside. A minor in-the-firing iron ping to handle. A 3" in-the-firing horizontal line to shoulder. H 17".
