Large-Sized Stoneware Match Safe with Detroit, MI Advertising, attributed to the Whites Pottery, Utica, NY, late 19th century, wide, tapered-form with impressed and cobalt-highlighted insignias on the front and reverse, depicting an altar with wings, inscribed with the letter "G", surmounted by a chalice of beer. Impressed at base with the cobalt-highlighted advertising, "Goebel Brewing Co. Detroit, Mich." Excellent condition with a small flake at base under one of the "Detroit, Mich." stamps. H 5 1/4" ; Diam. (at base) 6 3/8".
