One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Incised Drape-and-Tassel Motif, attributed to Armstrong & Wentworth, Norwich, CT origin, circa 1814-1834, ovoid jar with footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder, and applied lug handles, decorated around the shoulder with an incised and cobalt-highlighted drape-and-tassel motif. The decoration on this jar matches other signed examples of Norwich stoneware. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Three hairlines from rim. Sealed crack across underside, extending 6" up side of jar below handle, with two additional lines extending off from it.
