Fine Small-Sized Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Cobalt Grapes Decoration, Stenciled "A. Conrad & Co. / New Geneva. / Pa.", circa 1875, squat, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, decorated with Alexander Conrad maker's stenciling surrounding a finely-stenciled design of grapes hanging from a leafy stem with corkscrewing tendrils. Additional stenciled flourishes above and at base. Exceptional size and desirable subject matter. Shallow chipping to interior of rim. An in-the-firing contact mark to reverse. H 6 1/2".
