Rare Small-Sized Stoneware Jar, Impressed "1809 PAUL.CUSHMAN.S:STONEWARE.FACTORY.1809/ HALF.A.MILE.WESTOFALBANY.GOAL. HALF," Paul Cushman, Albany, NY, 1809, ovoid jar with footed base and tooled shoulder, featuring an elaborate coggled signature of Paul Cushman in two lines. Surface covered in an Albany slip glaze. Desirable "ALBANY GOAL" ("Jail") coggling and size to jar. Jar is broken with 19th century staple repair, including brown paint over staples and much of surface. A small rim chip and two minor rim nicks. Jar rim is somewhat out-of-round. H 7 3/8".
