Rare Three-Gallon Lidded Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird-on-Branch Motif, Stamped "T. HARRINGTON / LYONS", NY State origin, circa 1860, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird with scallop-edge tail, perched on a branch culminating in a series of berries. Slip-trailed "3" above. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Includes salt-glazed stoneware lid, not original to the jar. Jar with some fry to cobalt, chips to rim, wear to inner rim where lid rests, and a minor in-the-firing ping to left side of jar's front. Lid with a chip to underside and a small, glazed-over chip to top.
