Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Sunburst Decoration, Stamped "T. HARRINGTON / LYONS," NY State origin, circa 1860, cylindrical crock with toled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with an elaborate slip-trailed design featuring eight rays surrounding a heavily-shaded circle. Slip-trailed with two "3's" to shoulder. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. A desirable variant of Harrington's iconic starface motif. Two hairlines from rim on front, measuring 2 1/2" and 2 1/4". Two hairlines from rim on reverse, measuring 3 3/4" and 3 1/4". Some exfoliation to interior. A glazed-over base chip on side of crock. A minor nick to one handle.
