One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Impressed Drape-and-Tassel Motif, Stamped "COMMERAWS / STONEWARE", Thomas Commeraw, Manhattan, NY, late 18th or early 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with an impressed and cobalt-highlighted drape-and-tassel motif. Impressed on one side, "COMMERAWS", and on the opposite side, "STONEWARE". Provenance: Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example from a fifty-year private collection. Two large horizontal areas of restoration to rim, measuring roughly 4 1/4" and 3 1/4". Heavy chipping to base. Some in-the-firing crazing and blistering to surface. H 9 3 1/6".
