Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Butter Crock with Lid, Both Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'," PA origin, circa 1850-1880, cylindrical form with footed base, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with brushed swags applied over a slip-coated surface. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Includes loosely-fitting stoneware lid with swag decoration and cobalt-highlighted knob. Hairlines and crazing to crock. Lid in excellent, essentially as-made condition. H (of crock, excluding lid) 4 1/2" ; Diameter (of crock, excluding lid) 7 5/8".
