Four-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar, Stamped "D S," Daniel Seagle, Vale, NC, circa 1840, highly-ovoid jar with flattened rim and applied semi-lunate handles, the surface covered in a mottled olive alkaline glaze with darker runs cascading from the shoulder and handles. One handle impressed "D S" and opposite handle impressed "4". Large losses to rim. Chips to one handle. A 3/8" BB hole to one side. A long, tight horizontal crack to shoulder area. A small base chip. A 1 5/8" worn area to surface near base.
