Rare One-Quart Stoneware Jug, Stamped "W. STATES", Stonington, CT origin, circa 1811-1823, ovoid jug with heavily-tooled spout and ribbed handle, the majority of the surface dipped in a reddish-brown slip and covered in a salt glaze. Desirable maker and size. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. An in-the-firing, glazed-over ping to front. A small in-the-firing chip at base on reverse. H 8".
