Rare Rockingham Rebekah-at-the-Well Teapot, Stamped "J. MAYER / TRENTON, N.J", circa 1870, molded teapot with relief image on two sides of a woman standing beside a well, embossed "REBEKAH AT THE WELL" below. Surface decorated with a reddish-brown glaze over a yellowish ground. Underside impressed with large impressed mark of J. Mayer, proprietor of the Arsenal Pottery of Trenton, NJ. Includes domed lid with relief leaf motif. Faint maker's mark to underside of teapot. Teapot in excellent condition with a 1/2" in-the-firing contact mark near base of spout. Lid with losses and a large reglued section. The lid has a somewhat different color to the clay and glaze, suggesting it may not be original to this specific teapot. H (including lid) 7".
