Rare Cobalt-Decorated Yellowware Spaniel on Base, probably Ohio origin, mid to late 19th century, large-sized seated spaniel on base with raised floral decoration, the surface of the spaniel decorated with overlapping cobalt and brown sponging. Muzzle decorated with dark cobalt. Base covered in cobalt. Eyes and nose of spaniel with incised details. Pencil inscription on underside reads "Gertrude Brownlee / Port Gibson / Miss / May, 8 1892." Exceptional and colorful decoration on this rare spaniel. Mint condition. H 11 1/4" ; Length 9 1/4".
