Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration and "1887" Date, attributed to the Swank Pottery, Johnstown, PA, 1887, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a flowering vine motif in the Swank style. Inscribed under one handle with the cobalt date, "1887". Decorated under the opposite handle with three cobalt dashes. Handle terminals decorated with cobalt highlights. Very nice condition. A faint line in underside. One handle with a 1" crack, minor nick, and small chip. Opposite handle with a minor flake.
