Scarce Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "A.O. WHITTEMORE / HAVANA. N.Y", circa 1870, cylindrical crock with applied lug handles and tooling to shoulder and rim, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird with spotted body and raised foot, perched on a well-detailed tree stump. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Excellent condition with a small chip to left handle.
