One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Cake Crock with Lid, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1870, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied tab handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a brushed clover motif above a freehand stripe. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Includes a loosely-fitting Baltimore stoneware lid, probably not original to the crock, with daubed cobalt decoration. Crock with three rim chips, some staining, and a faint 2" surface line extending from base, not visible on interior. Lid with shallow chipping to flange on underside, in otherwise excellent condition.
