Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1830, ovoid jar with footed base, flared collar, and applied tab handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a graduated swag and flower motif. Additional two-stemmed flowering plant motif under each handle. Collar decorated with a brushed drape motif above a freehand stripe. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Strong decoration and exceptional color. Excellent, essentially as-made condition.
