Large-Sized Stoneware Canning Jar with Elaborate Freehand Cobalt Decoration, Western PA origin, circa 1870, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, decorated with a freehand curving vine motif between straight and wavy stripes. A long curving crack from rim on reverse, extending onto left side of jar's front. A 3 1/4" reglued section to rim with a 3 1/2" vertical hairline extending through it. A 3/4" glazed-over base chip. H 9 5/8".
