One-Gallon Stoneware Batter Pail with Cobalt Cherries Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA", circa 1865, ovoid pail with tubular spout, handle at base on reverse, and applied clay ears with wood-and-wire bail handle; decorated on the reverse with a cluster of three cherries emanating from a group of leaves. Front of pail decorated with a wreath surrounding the base of the spout. Cobalt highlights to ears and handle terminals. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a few short, in-the-firing surface lines at base on reverse, not visible on interior, some light staining, and some minor bubbling to cobalt.
