One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "H. SMITH & Co.", Alexandria, VA, circa 1825, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, applied tab handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a brushed design of a sunflower plant with large leaves emanating from it. Reverse decorated with brushed chainlinks underscored by brushed floral or foliate motifs. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Impressed with "H. SMITH & Co." maker's mark above one handle. Excellent condition with a small chip to each handle and some light staining.
