One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, VA origin, James River Valley or possibly Rockbridge County, circa 1825, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, applied tab handle, and tall collar with flattened rim, decorated with a brushed design of a flowering plant on the front and a finely-brushed vine on reverse. Cobalt highlights to edges of handles. Distinctive one-gallon capacity mark on front with crosshatching to interior. Large loss to rim and heavy rim chipping. A 1 1/2" hairline from rim on front and a 1 1/2" hairline from rim on reverse. A chip to each handle.
