Scarce One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stamped "ROCKBRIDGE," Rockbridge Baths Pottery, Rockbridge County, VA, circa 1845, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated on the reverse with a stylized drape-and-tassel motif related to the Manhattan style. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark on front. Some in-the-firing discolored areas and contact marks. A 2 3/4" horizontal surface line below rim on front. Rim with a chip and a 1/2" line descending from it. Two very minor in-the-firing nicks to bottom edge of jar. H 12 3/4".
