Outstanding Three-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Flowering Urn Decoration, Baltimore, MD, circa 1825, ovoid pitcher with footed base and tooled rim, decorated with a boldly-brushed design of a tall flowering plant emanating from an open-handled urn with crosshatched interior. Rim decorated with a brushed swag and hanging flower motif. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Exceptional size and wonderful decoration, featuring strong color. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor in the 1970s. Professionally-restored handle. Two rim chips. Two minor base chips and a minor in-the-firing lime ping at base on reverse. A long hairline across underside. Some faint horizontal lines at base, not visible on interior. H 15".
