Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jug with Incised Floral Design, probably Capital District of NY, early 19th century, ovoid jug with footed base, tooled shoulder, and heavily-tooled spout, decorated with a folky design of a flowering plant emanating from a stylized ground or pot. Slip-trailed cobalt drape motif to shoulder. Slip-trailed cobalt highlight to lower handle terminal. An unusual example of Manhattan-inspired stoneware, likely produced further north in the state. Staining to surface. Base chips. Some bubbling to cobalt.
