Two Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jugs, Stamped "SMITH & DAY / NORWALK", CT origin, circa 1840, both of ovoid form with cobalt-highlighted maker's marks and handle terminals, measuring one and two gallons. One-gallon jug in excellent condition with a base flake and small in-the-firing iron ping at base. Two-gallon jug in essentially as-made condition with mottling to surface, a large in-the-firing iron ping to base of jug and shoulder below upper handle terminal, both of which are glazed over, as well as additional small iron pings throughout.
