Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Flag and Figural Decorations, Midwestern or Ohio River Valley origin, third quarter 19th century, cylindrical jug with tooled shoulder and semi-squared rim, decorated with abstract brushed cobalt decoration of a standing man with raised arm, possibly holding a sword. An American flag on mound is brushed to the left of the figure and a second American flag appears to the figures right. Abstract stars and other, lightly-brushed designs or letters are brushed elsewhere on the jug, along with highlights to the handle terminals. A glazed-over 1 1/4" loss to spout. Otherwise excellent condition.
