Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Decoration of an Urn, a Bird, and a Nest, Stamped "SOMERSET / POTTERS' WORKS.", circa 1885, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of an urn with fern-like plant, beside a bird with nest. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A top-to-bottom crack on left side of crock, continuing onto reverse and underside. A few minor chips to interior of rim. One small base chip.
