Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BURGER / ROCHESTER", NY State origin, circa 1860, cylindrical jar with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed plant featuring heavily-shaded leaves flanking a stem. Slip-trailed "2" above plant. Light cobalt highlight to maker's mark. A tight spider line to front. Some wear to cobalt. Several small chips to interior of rim. A faint Y-shaped hairline to underside, not visible on interior.
