Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BURGER / ROCHESTER", NY State origin, circa 1860, cylindrical crock with squared rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a three ferns or leaves conjoined at the stem. Slip-trailed "4" to shoulder. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. A 3/4" in-the-firing iron ping to shoulder, beside a faint 2 1/2" Y-shaped line, not visible on interior. Some minor staining. A minor 5/8" worn area to reverse end of one handle.
