Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Cake Crock with Cobalt Eclipsed Starburst Decoration, Stamped "T. HARRINGTON / LYONS", NY State origin, circa 1860, cylindrical crock with heavily-tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a star with circular, eclipsed center, surrounded by eight pointed rays of light. Decoration is flanked on each side by a slip-trailed "4". Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Excellent form and striking decoration, based on Harrington's iconic starface design. Minor chips to reverse end of left handle. A chip to front end of right handle. Shallow chips to interior of rim.
