Rare Small-Sized Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bull Decoration, Southern or Midwestern origin, circa 1870, approximately one-half-gallon, pail-shaped jar with tooled shoulder and flattened rim, decorated with a brushed folk art design of a bull with curved horns. Exterior covered in a salt glaze. Interior coated in a brown slip. The thickness and crudeness of the potting suggests this piece was made by a potter in training. A 1 7/8" rim chip. Other smaller rim chips. A small in-the-firing separation along bottom edge. H 5 1/4" ; Diameter (across top) 6 5/8".
