Unusual Small-Sized Redware Jar, Inscribed "John Slothouer / his make / March the 23rd 1828", York County, PA origin, 1828, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and lead-glazed interior, the underside incised in script with the signature of John Slothouer followed by a date. Given the scarcity of the name, John Slothouer is almost certainly the man who appears as John Slothower in the 1830 federal census in Warrington Township, York County, Pennsylvania. Wear and two small chips to rim. Spots of glaze loss to interior. Base chips. H 3 1/2".
