One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Foliate Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, circa 1800, ovoid jug with footed base and delicately-tooled spout, decorated with an incised foliate motif brushed over in heavy cobalt slip. Handle terminals highlighted in large circular cobalt brushwork. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. A very large (3" x 1") loss to underside/ base, visible on front when jug is viewed in a standing position. An additional small chip to underside at edge. A minor spout nick. Various tiny in-the-firing pings to surface.
