Fine One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, early 19th century, highly-ovoid jug with heavily-tooled spout and rounded mouth, the front decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a flower with splayed petals. The distinctive design and form of this jug link it to a body of work that has been attributed to the same unidentified pottery as the iconic "Elizabeth Crane / 1811" punch bowl in the collection of the American Folk Art Museum and currently on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan, NY. Tight spider lines to shoulder and body. A few typical firing flaws, including an in-the-firing chip to handle and an in-the-firing contact mark below decoration.
