Ten-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "WILLIAMS & / REPPERT. / GREENSBORO. / PA.", circa 1885, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with freehand stripes, dashes, and vining to the shoulder, the midsection with Williams & Reppert maker's stenciling flanked by graduated dashes, the base with a freehand "10" flanked by flourishes, underscored by wavy and straight freehand stripes. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Desirable size. A 10" crack to underside, continuing 8" up side of jar. Traces of iron staining, created when iron bands were previously on the jar. H 21 1/4".
