Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "J. NORTON & CO. / BENNINGTON VT", circa 1860, cylindrical jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on a foliate design. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Superb color. Excellent condition with a minor ping to tail and a minor in-the-firing contact mark to left of bird.
