Four-Gallon Double-Handled Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Ohio origin, mid 19th century, ovoid jug with squared spout and applied handle, the surface dipped in a whitish slip and decorated with a bright cobalt design of a double-stemmed tulip plant featuring spotted leaves. Underscored cobalt-script "4" to shoulder. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a recently-surfaced GA collection. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. An area of surface wear near base on reverse. A small area of wear to each handle. A few shallow, in-the-firing chips to underside, visible when jug is turned over. Two small spout chips and a small piece of clay adhered to top of spout.
