Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "R.W. RUSSELL", Beaver, PA origin, circa 1860, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder, flared collar, and applied lug handles, decorated with an elaborate brushed fuchsia vine design, applied over slip-washed clay. Heavy cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: Collection of Harry Meyer, McDonald, PA. A thin 4" crack from rim on reverse. Tight spider cracks to base area, including a 4 1/2" spider crack emanating from base on side of jar. These cracks form an X on underside. A minor rim chip on reverse. Typical minor wear to inner rim for lid.
