Rare One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Crock with Chicago, IL Advertising, Embossed "MINNESOTA STONEWARE CO RED WING MINN", late 19th century, cylindrical crock with semi-squared rim, the front stenciled with the cobalt advertising, "SIEGEL, COOPER & CO. / CROCKERY DEPT. / CHICAGO, ILL". Exterior surface covered in a clear salt glaze. Interior surface coated in Albany slip. Underside with embossed circular maker's mark. A reglued 2 1/4" flake to rim on front. A 2 1/4" x 2 1/4" network of faint surface lines at base on reverse, not visible on interior. A small Albany slip drip to rim. An area of light surface wear to front. H 8".
