Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Chicken and Floral Motifs, Ohio origin, circa 1860, ovoid jug with tooled spout, one side decorated with a heavily-brushed design of a chicken with comb, upswept tail, and long legs, the opposite side decorated with a stylized plant bearing star-shaped blossoms. An appealing folk art image. Excellent condition with only minor flaws. A very faint 2 1/4" line to shoulder. A shallow piece of clay adhered to top of spout. Shallow base chips. A small in-the-firing stone ping to front.
