Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Folk Art Figural Decoration, Ohio origin, circa 1875, semi-ovoid jug with tooled spout, the front decorated with a brushed design of a dancing or walking man with oversized head featuring sgraffito facial features. Decoration is flanked by carrot-shaped foliate devices in the classic Ohio style, along with additional, singular swags. Provenance: Recently-surfaced in North Carolina. Small spout chips. A tight 2" crack from spout. A faint 1/2" surface line to exterior of spout, not visible on interior.
