Scarce One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Leaf Motif, Stamped "J Fenton", Dorset, VT, circa 1805, ovoid jug with footed base and heavily-tooled shoulder, decorated with a finely slip-trailed design of a leaf, applied over slip-coated clay. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Some shallow chipping to base. A small chip to side of spout. Some typical in-the-firing flaws and discoloration to surface.
