Rare Nine-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Water Cooler, Stamped "P.H. SMITH," Akron, Ohio origin, mid 19th century, baluster-form cooler with octagonal cobalt-highlighted bunghole, the front decorated with a brushed flowering plant design, the left blossom accented with cobalt dots. Impressed "P.H. SMITH / 9" below rim, the marks brushed over in cobalt. Desirable size and form. Poorly-restored handles. The majority of the handles' stripes are not original. Small chips and wear to bunghole. H 18 1/2".
