Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Ohio origin, circa 1880, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a flowering plant with heavy cobalt accents to blossom and leaf tips. Slip-trailed "4" above, flanked by flourishes. Staining to surface. A minor chip and some light wear to rim. A minor, glazed-over dent in one handle. A 3" vertical hairline at base on reverse, continuing 1 1/2" onto underside. Some minor traces of old white paint to reverse, unrelated to any sort of restoration.
