Two-Gallon Stoneware Water Cooler with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1875, cylindrical form with footed base, tooled shoulder, squared rim, applied lug handles, and circular bunghole. Front decorated with a double-stemmed floral motif emanating from the bunghole. Cobalt swag decoration to shoulder. Cobalt dashes under each handle and cobalt highlights to handle terminals and bunghole. Reverse with unusual four-petaled floral motif below a series of brushed cobalt spots. Provenance: From a recently-surfaced NC collection, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Heavy chipping to both handles. Some in-the-firing discoloration to bunghole. A few minor rim chips A 1 1/8" base chip. An approximately 1/2" line to top edge of rim.
