Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to the Coffman Family, Rockingham County, VA, mid 19th century, ovoid jar with tall collar and ribbed handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a slip-trailed stem bearing brushed leaves and three flower blossoms. Provenance: Ex-Jim and Pat Kiser Collection. Literature: Illustrated on p. 53 of Evans and Suter, A Great Deal of Stone and Earthen Ware. Exhibited: A Great Deal of Stone and Earthen Ware, item #67. A long restored crack, extending from underside and curving as it extends partway up body of jar. A few small rim chips. Shallow chipping to one handle. A 1 1/2" chipped section to opposite handle. Some light surface wear to midsection.
