Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Grapes Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA", circa 1865, ovoid jug with tapered spout, decorated with a boldly-brushed design of a cluster of grapes hanging from a vine with large, well-detailed leaf, flanked by two looping tendrils. Striking, large-sized design with exceptional color. Provenance: From a recently-surfaced collection of Cowden & Wilcox stoneware. A 1 3/8" chipped area to spout. Otherwise excellent condition with minor base chips, and a shallow, glazed-over base chip.
